A few weeks ago I receive a very official looking email from a solicitors firm informing me they were processing a trade mark for ‘Loud Women’ and asked me to provide proof I retained rights over the name. It looked legit, and it ruffled me a bit. Two weeks later I received another one, this one more insistent – a ‘last chance to protect your brand’ kinda thing.
Luckily, I’m connected with Clive Bonny who generously gave me his time to check it out and told me it was a scam. One that has hoodwinked more than a few business owners into taking out IP protection with these companies they don’t need. Running into £1,000s of unnecessary costs.
It’s so common that Clive has put together an information sheet about the scam and what to look for. So I promised I’d share it to hopefully prevent others from being sucked in, because not everyone has a Clive Bonny in their lives.
And, for most of us, understanding IP and Trademark law isn’t in our already overflowing list of things to gen up on.
