Business owner managers and digital designers have attended a two hour seminar showing how to protect and capitalise their intellectual property. Presenters Penina Shepherd from Acumen Business Law and Clive Bonny from Strategic Management Partners demonstrated do’s and don’ts to creative entrepreneurs at Wired Sussex Fusebox.
The event showed how business IP asset value is often more valuable than the sum of buildings, plant and equipment. Trademarks, designs, copyright, website content, client details, staff identities, operating processes, and training materials were highlighted. Attendees learned that over 90% of all businesses fail to protect their IP assets, companies losing vital data through online and hard copy theft, staff leavers at risk of disclosure, and data being stolen on customers, suppliers and employees.
Penina announced the Amazon online launch of her new book The Freedom Revolution on entrepreneurship, and Clive referred the group to free learning support materials he had helped design with the Intellectual Property Office. Event organiser Kieron Cropper said “our members have taken away pragmatic ways to protect and capitalise their IP assets at low cost.”
