32 Million Bricks Linked with Radio Communication

A Sussex based brick manufacturer has been combining the latest technology with the traditional manufacturing method of ‘clamp-firing’ to supply over 32 million stock bricks and pavers to the construction industry. Clamp fired stock bricks have always been a long lasting, sustainable building material guaranteed to stay beautiful long into the future. The firm uses radio communications to coordinate high quality building in tough environmental conditions.

Freshfield Lane Brickworks have become acknowledged experts in creating a timelessly authentic, natural look giving a sympathetic personality to any build. The bricks create a warm ‘earthy’ feel in harmony with the natural environment and this reassuring natural appearance puts them in high demand with architects, self-builders and premium house-builders. Products have been successfully used in projects such as the extension of the Lutyens-designed, Grade II Listed, Henrietta Barnett School in Hampstead Garden Suburb, the award-winning Holiday Inn Express in Manchester and the contemporary Falmer Academy building in Brighton. They are also suppliers to high value housing developers such as Berkeley and St James Homes, delivering to key city regeneration projects such as Battersea Reach.

Facilities manager Sean Freeman rents 25 FM radio controlled handsets from Press2Talk to manage the challenge of noisy site communications. Sean says “our project work requires clear immediate information between several people at the same time. Mobile phones just cannot work in many places such as aluminium sheds or on rugged site conditions. We also use digital radio comms for lone workers providing effective site security. We’ve used the same supplier for 8 years as they have provided fast response and good value contracts with upgrades.”

Press2Talk have been developing their quality controls using nationally recognised Responsible Business standards. MD Nick Kortalla-Bird also won a government sponsored  GrowthAccelerator grant providing extra professional support from Strategic Management Partners Clive Bonny. Clive says “Nick is building a sustainable business with quality management standards which ensure he provides the highest level of service expected by  quality conscious clients”
